Recently, I shared a free Song Maps Quick-Start Kit for your next writing session. Today, I’m delighted to show you something else I’ve been working on: Advanced Song Maps and its companion workbook.
It’s ten years since the original Song Maps introduced seven ways to develop a lyric. This new book brings you thirty more.
The starting point is familiar. You find a title you love. You write a promising first verse. Then you reach verse two—and realise you’ve already said everything you know.
What happens next?
These new maps give you more possibilities to explore: a memory that changes the present, another person’s perspective, a discovery that makes us hear the chorus differently.
Each map includes an explanation, a worked example, a commercial recording to study and an exercise to try with your own title. The opening chapters will help you begin even if this is your first Song Maps book.
There’s also a companion workbook, with a free downloadable version included for book buyers.
Over the coming posts, I’ll share a few of the maps and show you how they work. I’ll also keep you posted on publication.
In the meantime, download the free Quick-Start Kit here.
Which part of developing a lyric would you most like help with? Leave a comment or reply to this email.
Hope this helps!
Simon
